Decay		 Netscape 4 is a piece of shit... [ May 12, 2002 ]

I have just spent most of the last few hours (yes I have an exciting life thank you very much... yes I know it is Saturday night....) trying to get the new design working in NS4...

I have tried every little bit of HTML trickery and still I banged my head mercilessly against the desktop.... I searched the web, tried every little trick they had... nothing, nada, vacuum.....

I then put it all away and then came back to try a very simple test, from first principles if you will.... and I discovered something amazing.... something that never came up on any of my searches.... wait for it..... here it comes..

GIF files are not displayed as backgrounds in Netscape 4.x

You got that? GIF files can be viewed in a cell, but not as a background... excuse me? no I haven't gone mad... not yet... kerplunk kerplunk whoops where's my thribble....

I'm off to bed.... I've had enough shit for one night....

*hugs* to droidy who saw me getting frustrated, but did not see the pure joy on my face when the bastard started working....

And one last note... to the administrators of systems that only allow NS4, I will tie your genitals (pre stretched if need be) to a Formula 1 car at next years Melbourne Grand Prix if you have not removed that travesty from your systems...

NS6 will work on all the platforms that NS4 does, if you don't like NS6 (and the associted bloat) try Mozilla, which NS6 is based on.... and if they are windows boxes for the love of some fucking deity that people believe in, let people use Internet Explorer! I know you hate Microsoft and all, but after all you are USING THEIR OPERATING SYSTEM you Terminal pillock

IE is bloody good. This is a sad thing to say, I know, but it appears to be true. Not only did Netscape drop the ball in the browser war, it buried it, shat on it and ran off to cook themselves a hearty breakfast while Microsoft turned IE into the browser of choice. If I wasn't on Linux, I'd be using it!
Having said that, Netscape 6.2 is quite good, and opera is very, very fast.

I'm not sure why the mental institution known as university wants to stick with netscape, even though the majority of their computers run some version of a Microsoft OS (be it 98, NT, 2000 ... not sure if there are any 3.x, 95, ME or XP computers floating about - I'm sure there are, in ENGINEERING! Although, the elec eng admin office have shiny blue imacs ... )

Is there some sort of deal going on that I don't know about ? Netscape used to be the browser of choice, but yes, like Sparker said, it's like it sort of *forgot* to keep up ...

On a completely unrelated note, I have to figure out why something isn't working ... I screwed up some syntax somewhere along the line ... 2-d array of structs ... yum...

Uhm, GIF's displayed fine as a body background, as a table background and a cell background in Netscape 4.7
